Week 1 NFL Opening Odds and Line Moves

The Cowboys and Giants opened the season Wednesday and underdog bettors immediately turned a profit with Dallas winning.

And historically, big underdogs in Week 1 have been a solid bet. Double-digit road underdogs are 14-4 ATS since 1991 and big home underdogs of 9 or more (the Browns and Titans both fit this category) are 8-5 ATS.

What does Sunday's NFL Week 1 betting board offer up? Here's a quick preview of what could make solid picks in your weekly NFL office pool or bankroll contest.

Top-overall draft pick Andrew Luck makes his official NFL debut as his Indianapolis Colts visit the Chicago Bears, and Heisman winner Robert Griffin III begins his pro career as his Washington Redskins visit the New Orleans Saints.

As of Thursday morning's NFL betting lines Luck and the Colts are getting 9.5 points from the Bears (with one book offering 11 points), and RGIII and the 'Skins are getting seven points from the Saints.

Another rookie QB makes his debut as Brandon Weeden and the Browns host Michael Vick and the Eagles. Cleveland is an 8.5-point home dog, according to the matchup report.

The New England Patriots begin their trek toward what they hope is another Super Bowl appearance when they visit the Tennessee Titans. The Pats are six-point road favorites.

Yet another rookie QB is expected to make his first NFL start as Ryan Tannehill and the Miami Dolphins visit the Houston Texans. The Fish are getting 13 points.

In a possible preview of an NFC playoff game of later this season the San Francisco 49ers are five-point underdogs at the Green Bay Packers.

A fifth rookie QB is expected to make his NFL debut Sunday when Russell Wilson leads his Seattle Seahawks against the Cardinals in Arizona. The Seahawks are three-point road favorites.

And finally, in a rematch of a crazy AFC playoff game from last season, but with a new twist, Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos host Big Ben and the Pittsburgh Steelers. As of Thursday AM the Broncos are favored by a point and a half over the Steelers.
