Tobacco Road rivalry ready for renewal on Wednesday night
This college basketball season just keep getting crazier, with upsets and half-court buzzer-beaters and the like coming almost on a daily basis. All of which makes for good buildup as the Madness of March approaches.
Here's a quick look at some this week's college basketball action, with a few betting-related tidbits.
Monday night, as it usually does, offers up a Big East showdown as No. 15 Georgetown hosts No. 18 Marquette (7 pm ET, ESPN). Then in the Big 12 No. 14 Kansas, which has stunningly lost its last three games, hosts No. 10 Kansas State (9 pm ET, ESPN).
In the early betting the Hoyas were favored by 4.5 points over the Golden Eagles, and the Jayhawks were favored by 7.5 points over the Wildcats.
Tuesday sees a big game down in the SEC as No. 2 Florida, which is 0-3 ATS over its last three games, hosts 17-6 Kentucky (7 pm ET, ESPN). And in the Big Ten No. 4 Michigan, coming off that gut-wrenching loss at Wisconsin Saturday, visits No. 12 Michigan State (9 pm ET, ESPN).
Wednesday features a good matchup in the Atlantic 10 as first-place Butler, 14-7 ATS on the season, hosts 17-6 Charlotte, which is 11-6 vs. the numbers (7 pm ET). Also, back in the Big East, No. 6 Syracuse visits 16-6 UConn (7 pm ET, ESPN). In a big game in Conference USA first-place Memphis, which is only 8-12 ATS this season, hosts second-place Central Florida (8 pm ET, CBS Sports Network). In a Tobacco Road rivalry bout No. 2 Duke hosts 16-7 North Carolina (9 pm ET, ESPN). And out in the Mountain West 19-4 Colorado State hosts 18-5 San Diego State (10 pm ET, CBS Sports Network).
Thursday's action includes a Big Ten border battle as 17-7 Wisconsin, after that minor-miracle victory over Michigan, visits 17-7 Minnesota (7 pm ET, ESPN). Back in the A-10 VCU, which is tied for first place but only 6-11 ATS this season, hosts 16-6 UMass (9 pm ET, CBS Sports Network). And in a huge game out in the West Coast Conference 23-2 Gonzaga, now the No. 5 team in the country, visits 21-4 St. Mary's (11 pm ET, ESPN2).
Finally, Friday night's limited schedule includes a good game in the Big East as No. 15 Georgetown visits 18-6 Cincinnati (9 pm ET, ESPN).
