Surprising Seahawks sitting as slight home dogs Sunday night
With the almost-daily barrage of college football bowl games under way, as well as the playoff races in the NFL, football bettors have plenty to choose from this weekend. Here's a quick look at some of the better football betting action available over the next three days, with pointspreads current as of Friday morning.
We begin Friday night in the college ranks with the Beef 'O' Brady's Bowl in St. Petersburg, pitting 9-4 Central Florida against 9-3 Ball State (7:30 pm ET, ESPN). As of Friday morning most books were listing the Knights, who won Conference USA's East Division then lost the conference championship game in overtime, as seven-point favorites over the Cardinals who went 6-2 in the MAC.
Bowl play continues Saturday with the New Orleans Bowl, where 8-4 Louisiana-Lafayette was favored by 4.5 points over 7-5 East Carolina (Noon ET, ESPN). And for the Las Vegas Bowl 10-2 Boise State was favored by 5.5 points over 7-5 Washington (3:30 pm ET, ESPN).
The NFL offers up a Saturday night special, with the 12-2 Falcons, trying to ice down the top seed in the upcoming NFC playoffs, visiting the 4-10 Lions (8:30 pm ET, ESPN). As of Friday most books were listing Atlanta as 4.5-point road favorites over deflated Detroit.
Moving on to Sunday's action;
The 12-2 Texans, trying to ice down the top seed in the AFC, were favored by eight points at home over the 8-6 Vikings (1 pm ET, Fox).
The 7-7 Steelers, in danger of missing the playoffs, were favored by 3.5 points at home over the 8-6 Bengals (1 pm ET, CBS).
The 9-5 Ravens, who have lost three games in a row, were getting two points as home dogs vs. the 8-6 Giants (4:25 pm ET, Fox).
And for Sunday night, in the weekend's final game, the 9-5 Seahawks, who are 6-0 at home this season, were getting one point as home dogs vs. the 10-3-1 49ers, who just upset the Patriots in New England (8:30 pm ET, NBC).
