Saints pegged as road dogs against Broncos on SNF
The football action only seems to get better as the seasons progress, with important games layered all over the NCAAF and NFL betting boards. Here's a quick look at some of this weekend's happenings on the gridirons across America.
Saturday's amateur action begins, among other places, in the Big Ten where the 6-2 Northwestern Wildcats - coming off two fourth-quarter losses - are five-point home favorites vs. the 4-3 Iowa Hawkeyes (Noon ET, ESPN2)
Down in the ACC the 5-3 North Carolina Tar Heels, who are only a game out of first place in the Coastal Division, are 7.5-point favorites over their friends from just down the road, the 5-2 NC State Wolfpack (12:30 pm ET, ESPN3).
In what could be a key game out in the WAC 6-2 Utah State is favored by 23 points at 5-2 UT-San Antonio (2 pm ET, ESPN3).
In an interesting inter-regional game 3-4 Georgia Tech is favored by 2.5 points at home vs. 4-4 BYU (3 pm ET, ESPN3).
Out in the Pac-12 the 5-2 Arizona State Sun Devils are favored by 6.5 points at home over the 5-2 UCLA Bruins (3 pm ET, FX).
Down in the SEC the 7-0 Florida Gators, trying to hang on to the No. 2 spot in the BCS standings, are 6.5-point favorites over 6-1 Georgia in the big cocktail game in Jacksonville (3:30 pm ET, CBS).
In an interesting Big East/MAC matchup 7-0 Rutgers is favored by 13 points at home over 6-1 Kent State (3:30 pm ET, ESPN3).
In a rematch of last year's Big Ten championship game 6-2 Wisconsin is a six-point favorite at Camp Randall over 4-4 Michigan State (3:30 pm ET, ABC/ESPN2).
In another Big Ten battle 5-2 Penn State is favored by one point in Happy Valley over 8-0 Ohio State (5:30 pm ET, ESPN).
In the game of the day in college football 7-0 Notre Dame gets a chance to show how good it really is when it visits Norman to take on 5-1 Oklahoma (8 pm ET, ABC). The Irish are 11-point underdogs to the Sooners.
In the game that might decide the Big Ten's Legends Division 5-2 Nebraska is favored by two points in Lincoln over 5-2 Michigan (8 pm ET, ESPN2).
And in a battle of unbeatens, 7-0 Alabama - still the No. 1 team in the BCS standings - is favored by 24 points at home over 7-0 Mississippi State (8:30 pm ET, ESPN).
Moving on to Sunday's professional play:
The 2-5 Detroit Lions, in real danger of falling out of the running in the NFC, are favored by two points at home over the 4-3 Seattle Seahawks (1 pm ET, Fox).
The 3-3 Philadelphia Eagles, losers of two games in a row, are favored by three points at home over the 6-0 Atlanta Falcons (1 pm ET, Fox).
The 3-3 Pittsburgh Steelers, looking to get above .500 for the first time this season, are favored by 4.5 points at home over the 3-4 Washington Redskins (1 pm ET, Fox).
The 4-3 New England Patriots are favored by seven points over the 3-4 St. Louis Rams in a game that will be played in London (1 pm ET, CBS).
The 5-2 New York Giants, coming off that come-from-behind victory over the 'Skins, are two-point road favorites at the 3-3 Dallas Cowboys (4:25 pm ET, Fox).
And for Sunday night the 3-3 Denver Broncos are favored by six points at home over the 2-4 New Orleans Saints (8:20 pm ET, NBC).
