Ravens favored to stifle Steelers on Sunday Night
College conference championships, longtime rivalries and injured quarterbacks headline this weekend in football. Here's a quick look at some of this weekend's gridiron betting action, with point spreads cited as of Friday morning.
Among Saturday's college clashes;
In the ACC 9-1 Florida State, which can clinch a spot in the conference championship game with a victory, was favored by 31 points at 4-6 Maryland (Noon ET, ESPNU). Also, 9-1 Clemson, which can still win the Atlantic Division if FSU stumbles, was favored by 17 points at home over 6-4 North Carolina State (3:30 pm ET, ESPN2).
In a big game in the Big East, first-place Rutgers was a 6.5-point underdog at third-place Cincinnati (Noon ET).
In what might well be a preview of the upcoming Conference USA championship game Tulsa, 6-0 in conference play, was favored by two points at home over Central Florida, which is also 6-0 in CUSA play (Noon ET, FSN).
In a game that will be played basically for pride 7-3 Wisconsin, which has already clinched a spot in the Big Ten championship game, was favored by two points at home over 10-0 Ohio State, which is ineligible to play for the conference title (3:30 pm ET, ABC).
Also in the Big Ten 8-2 Nebraska, which still leads the Legends Division, was favored by 20 points at home over 6-4 Minnesota (3:30 pm ET, Big Ten Network); 7-3 Michigan, which is tied with the Huskers atop the Legends but loses on the tiebreaker, was favored by 16 points at home over 4-6 Iowa (Noon ET, ESPN); and 5-5 Michigan State, needing a victory to become bowl-eligible, was favored by 7.5 points at home over 7-3 Northwestern (Noon ET, ESPN2).
In the game that will decide who wins the Pac-12's South Division 7-3 USC was favored by three points over 8-2 UCLA at the Rose Bowl (3 pm ET, Fox). Also in the Pac-12 BCS No. 2 Oregon, looking to ice down the other spot in the Pac-12 championship game, was favored by 20 points at home over 8-2 Stanford (8 pm ET, ABC).
BCS No. 3 Notre Dame, at a perfect 10-0, was favored by 24 points at home over 5-5 Wake Forest (3:30 pm ET, NBC).
Finally, BCS-leading Kansas State, 10-0 and presumably two victories away from playing in the national championship game, was favored by 12 points at 4-5 Baylor (8 pm ET, ESPN). And in one of those new Big 12 rivalries 7-2 Oklahoma was favored by 11 points at 5-4 West Virginia (7 pm ET, Fox).
Looking forward to Sunday's NFL contests;
In a key game in the NFC North 6-3 Green Bay, a winner of four games in a row, was favored by 3.5 points at 4-5 Detroit (1 pm ET, Fox).
In one of those “old vet vs. young gun” battles Tom Brady and the 6-3 Patriots were favored by nine points at home over Andrew Luck and the 6-3 Colts (4:25 pm ET, CBS).
For Sunday's nightcap, in the most physical rivalry in the league at the moment, the 7-2 Ravens were favored by three points at 6-3 Pittsburgh (8:30 pm ET, NBC) who will be without injured QB Ben Roethlisberger.
Finally, for Monday night, most books were holding off on lining the game matching the 6-2-1 49ers and the 7-2 Bears (8:40 pm ET, ESPN) until more certain word comes out concerning both teams' quarterback situations.
