October Opens with Football Feast
With the arrival of the month of October also comes a little football weather. So as fans break out the sweatshirts and gather around the grills let's take a look at some of this weekend's more intriguing betting action on the gridiron.
Around the college ranks on Saturday:
In an interesting Big Ten matchup 5-0 Northwestern is getting two points at 3-2 Penn State (noon ET, ESPN).
In what might turn out to be a good Pac-12 matchup 3-1 Stanford is favored by 9.5 points over Coach Rich-Rod and 3-2 Arizona (3 pm ET, Fox).
In a Big 12 battle 2-1 Oklahoma is favored by 4.5 points at 4-0 Texas Tech (3:30 pm ET, ESPN2/ABC).
In a really big game down in the SEC 5-0 LSU is favored by 2.5 points at 4-0 Florida (3:30 pm ET, CBS).
In what might be a sleeper of a game in the Big Ten 3-1 Purdue is getting three points at home from 2-2 Michigan (4 pm ET, Big Ten Network).
In a very interesting matchup brought about by conference-jumping 4-0 West Virginia, led by Heisman favorite Geno Smith, is a 6.5-point underdog at 4-0 Texas (7 pm ET, Fox).
In another really big game down in the SEC 5-0 Georgia is getting a point and a half from 5-0 South Carolina in Columbia (7 pm ET, ESPN).
In the renewal of what was a pretty good rivalry 20 years ago 4-0 Notre Dame is favored by 14 points over 4-1 Miami-Florida in a game that will be played at Soldier Field in Chicago (7:30 pm ET, NBC).
And in another big game in the Big Ten 5-0 Ohio State is favored by a field goal over 4-1 Nebraska (8 pm ET, ABC).
Moving on to Sunday's NFL betting action;
One of the final two NFL unbeatens, the 4-0 Falcons, are favored by three points over RG III and the 2-2 Redskins at FedEx Field (1 pm ET, Fox).
The 3-1 Eagles, who have been outscored on the season by 17 points, are getting three points at the 1-2 Steelers (1 pm ET, Fox).
In the 13th meeting between Tom Brady and Peyton Manning the 2-2 Patriots are favored by 6.5 points over the 2-2 Broncos (4:25 pm ET, CBS).
The marquee matchup on Sunday night features the 0-4 Saints favored by 3.5 points at home vs. the 3-1 Chargers (8:20 pm ET, NBC).
And Monday night the other NFL unbeaten, the 4-0 Texans, is favored by eight points at the 2-2 Jets (8:30 pm ET, ESPN).
