Oakland Surge Not Reflected in World Series Odds
They are the hottest team in baseball, but still whopping +5000 underdogs to win the World Series.
Just how long the Oakland A's remain off bettors' radar remains to be seen but after their seventh straight win Wednesday (by a football score of 16-0 over Toronto), it can't be very long.
Oakland is a +105 underdog, as Tom Milone pitches against Aaron Laffey today with the A's aiming to sweep the injury-depleted Jays.
The A's are 16-2 in July and have snared one of the Wild Card positions. Still, shops like 5Dimes.eu have them listed as 50/1 longshots and +2200 to win the AL pennant.
Elsewhere in baseball betting action Thursday, Jake Westbrook and the Cardinals are -140 favorites over Chris Capuano and the Dodgers; and Justin Verlander and the Tigers are -180 favorites over Zach McAllister and the Indians.
Kuchar favored in Canadian Open odds
Ernie Els may have won the British Open five days ago but he's a 22/1 longshot to duplicate that success in the Canadian Open, which starts today.
Jim Furyk won it the last time the Canadian Open was staged in Ancaster (near Hamilton, Ontario) and he is in the field again this year, as is defending champion Sean O'Hair (who won the title on a Vancouver course last year).
Matt Kuchar was the favorite at most Vegas and online shops at 12/1 odds. Furyk and Hunter Mahan were next at 14/1. Canadian Mike Weir was 200/1 to pull off a major upset and return to golf betting relevance.
