NIT, CBI betting action whets appetite for Sweet 16
The NCAA tournament, down to its Sweet 16, takes a few days off before resuming play on Thursday. In the interim the NIT and CBI take over the college basketball betting boards, offering up action for early this week.
Monday gives us three NIT and five CBI bouts. In early NIT betting No. 8 seed Robert Morris, after upsetting Kentucky, was getting eight points at No. 4 seed Providence; No. 7 seed Mercer, after upsetting No. 2 seed Tennessee, was getting seven points at No. 3 seed BYU; and No. 1 seed Southern Miss was giving eight points versus No. 5 seed Louisiana Tech.
On Monday's CBI board Wright State was a pick 'em at home against Richmond; George Mason was favored by six points at home over Houston; Purdue was favored by six points at home over Santa Clara; Wyoming was favored by six points at home over Western Michigan; and Oral Roberts was favored by four points at home over Cal-Irvine.
Tuesday's slate consists of one NIT game, as No. 1 seed Alabama hosts No. 2 seed Maryland, and three CBI games as Canisius hosts Evansville, East Carolina hosts Loyola-Maryland and Northern Iowa hosts Bradley.
And Wednesday in the NIT Virginia hosts Iowa, while Monday's winners meet in both the NIT and CBI.
Thursday the NCAA tournament returns to action with four regional semifinal bouts. For the two games at the Verizon Center in Washington, DC No. 2 seed Miami was an early five-point favorite over No. 3 seed Marquette (7:15 pm ET, CBS), and No. 1 seed Indiana was favored by five points over No. 4 seed Syracuse (9:45 pm ET, CBS).
And for the two games at Staples Center in Los Angeles No. 2 seed Ohio State was favored by four points over No. 6 seed Arizona (7:45 pm ET, TBS), while No. 9 seed Wichita State was favored by four points over No. 13 seed LaSalle (10:15 pm ET, TBS).
Friday features the final four NCAA semifinals. For the two games in Indianapolis No. 1 seed Louisville was an early 10-point favorite over No. 12 seed Oregon (7:15 pm ET, CBS), and No. 2 seed Duke was favored by two points over No. 3 seed Michigan State (9:45 pm ET, CBS).
And for the two games at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington No. 1 seed Kansas was favored by two points over No. 4 seed Michigan (7:35 pm ET, TBS), and No. 3 seed Florida was favored by 13 points over the first No. 15 seed to ever make it to the Sweet 16, Florida Gulf Coast (9:55 pm ET, TBS).
On the updated NCAA tournament betting board at Bovada.lv Louisville was the favorite at 3/1, followed by Florida at 19/4, Indiana at 5/1, Miami and Ohio State at 15/2, Michigan at 11/1, Duke and Kansas at 12/1, Michigan State at 14/1, Arizona at 18/1, Syracuse at 20/1, Oregon at 33/1, Marquette and Wichita State at 40/1, LaSalle at 66/1 and FGC at 75/1.
