NFL Week 4 Betting Preview: Return of the Zebras
What was that roar of approval we heard from the direction of Green Bay, Wisconsin Thursday morning? Oh, so the regular zebras are back for Week 4 of this NFL season? A week late, for those in Cheesehead-land, but better late than never, right?
So with Ed Hochuli (and his pipes) and his buddies back making the calls, here's a quick look at some Week 4 NFL betting action.
The New England Patriots, 1-2 after a questionable loss at Baltimore last Sunday, are in Buffalo to play the 2-1 Bills (1:00 pm ET). New England got upset in Buffalo last year, after coughing up an early 21-0 lead. Tom Brady threw for 387 yards and four scores, but also got picked off four times, as the Bills broke a 15-game losing streak vs. the Patriots.
In the second meeting between these teams last year New England bounced Buffalo 49-21.
As of Thursday morning the Patriots were favored by four points for Sunday's game over the Bills.
The 2-1 San Francisco 49ers, coming off a loss at Minnesota, visit New Jersey Sunday to play the 2-1 Jets (1 pm ET). San Fran was thought by many to be the best team in football after two games, but got outplayed and upset by the Vikings last Sunday. The Jets, meanwhile, won in strange fashion in Miami, when Dolphins coach Joe Philbin, trying to ice NY kicker Nick Folk, called time-out just before Folk's attempt at a game-winning FG got blocked. So the block didn't count, and Folk then drilled the game-winner.
The Niners are favored by four points for Sunday's game.
Finally, in a rematch of one of the best regular-season games of last year, the 1-2 Green Bay Packers host the 0-3 New Orleans Saints (4:25 pm ET). Green Bay, as you might have heard, lost Monday night in Seattle on a mini-Hail Mary and major referee malfunction on the last play of the game. The Saints, meanwhile, gave up a 24-6 lead last Sunday and lost in overtime at home to Kansas City.
On opening night last year the Packers held off New Orleans 42-34, stuffing the Saints on the goal-line on the last play of the game.
As of Thursday morning Green Bay is favored by 7.5 points over New Orleans.
Elsewhere on Sunday's NFL betting board 3-0 Atlanta is favored by seven points at home over 1-2 Carolina; the 2-1 Chargers and 1-2 Chiefs are a pick 'em in KC; 3-0 Arizona is favored by six points over 1-2 Miami; and the 2-1 Eagles are favored by one point over the 2-1 Giants Sunday night.
