NFL Odds: NFC powers hit gridiron on Sunday night
The Carolina Panthers have won eight games in a row to improve to 9-3 SU (8-4 on the NFL betting lines) on the season, but that winning streak will be in serious jeopardy on Sunday Night Football this weekend as they take on Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints at the Superdome.
The Panthers started the season with three losses in their first four games, but they topped the Minnesota Vikings 35-10 on the road in Week 6 and haven't looked back - rattling off victories over the Rams, Buccaneers, Falcons, Niners, Patriots, Dolphins, and Buccaneers again heading into Week 14.
That has Carolina now battling New Orleans for first place in the NFC South, and firmly in a playoff position in the NFC conference standings.
The Panthers topped Tampa Bay 27-6 at home last time out as a 7-point favorite on the NFL betting lines at the sportsbooks, as Cam Newton went 18 of 29 for 263 passing yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Newton also ran for a score for Carolina in that victory, which turned out to be an UNDER result; the Panthers are 4-8 on the OVER/UNDER this season.
Carolina will have the NFL betting trends on their side on Sunday night, as they went 2-0 both SU and ATS against New Orleans last season - winning 35-27 at home and 44-38 on the road in those two matchups, which were both OVER results. The Panthers have covered in eight of their last 10 games against the Saints, with the OVER 4-0 in their last four meetings.
New Orleans is coming off an ugly 34-7 loss in Seattle on Monday Night Football in which Brees was held to just 147 passing yards and one touchdown strike by the Seahawks' defense. That ended the Saints' three-game winning streak, and they're now tied with Carolina at 9-3 atop the NFC South standings.
The Thursday Night Football game this week is Houston at Jacksonville, with those teams combining for five wins in 24 games this season. The Monday Night Football matchup is more intriguing, as the Bears play host to the Cowboys to close out Week 14. Houston is a 2.5-point favorite on the NFL odds, while Dallas/Chicago remained off the board early in the week.
The other NFL betting matchups on the Week 14 slate are Atlanta at Green Bay (no early line), Detroit at Philadelphia (-2.5), Miami at Pittsburgh (-3), Buffalo at Tampa Bay (-2.5), Oakland at the Jets (-2.5), Kansas City (-3) at Washington, Cleveland at New England (-13), Minnesota at Baltimore (-9), Indianapolis at Cincinnati (-5.5), Tennessee at Denver (-13.5), the Giants at San Diego (-3), St. Louis at Arizona (-7), and Seattle at San Francisco (-3).
