NFL Betting: Divisional Round playoffs hit the field
Four teams have been vanquished and four others will be making their playoff debuts for this season on the weekend as NFL betting action turns its attention to the Divisional Round on Saturday and Sunday with games taking place in Seattle, New England, Carolina, and Denver.
Three of four road teams picked up victories on Wild Card Weekend to advance to the Divisional Round, with the Indianapolis Colts the lone home team to grab a win - but that one didn't come easily. The Colts trailed by 21 points at halftime against the Kansas City Chiefs before Andrew Luck and company rallied for a 45-44 victory.
Indianapolis will now travel to New England to take on Tom Brady and the Patriots on Saturday night in the first AFC matchup of the Divisional Round, and the oddsmakers have the Colts pegged as the 7-point road underdogs for the contest. The total for the game has been listed at 53 points.
The other Saturday game on Wild Card Weekend saw the New Orleans Saints top the Eagles 26-24 in Philadelphia despite a sub-par effort from Drew Brees, who passed for 250 yards but only connected on one touchdown strike while getting picked off twice. Shayne Graham booted a field goal with no time left on the clock to give the Saints that win.
New Orleans will next face the Seahawks in Seattle on Saturday afternoon to kick off the NFC's side of the Divisional Round bracket, with the Saints set as 8-point road underdogs for the matchup and the OVER/UNDER for the game listed at 47.5 points.
The San Diego Chargers were the last team to make the playoff field in the AFC, but they pulled out a win on Wild Card Weekend by topping the Bengals 27-10 in Cincinnati - scoring 20 unanswered points in the second half of that contest. Ronnie Brown and Danny Woodhead combined for 131 rushing yards and two touchdowns for San Diego in that win.
The Chargers now travel up to Denver to face Peyton Manning and the Broncos in a Divisional Round matchup late in the afternoon on Sunday. San Diego sits as the biggest underdog on the board for this weekend, with the Broncos favored by 9 points at home and the OVER/UNDER for the game at 54.5 points.
Finally, the San Francisco 49ers also used a field goal with no time left on the clock to get a win on Wild Card Weekend, knocking off the Green Bay Packers 23-20 at Lambeau Field. Colin Kaepernick passed for 227 yards and one touchdown while also rushing for 98 yards in that contest, with Phil Dawson providing the game-winning kick in the fourth quarter.
San Francisco will be looking to carry that momentum into their Divisional Round matchup against the Panthers in Carolina early on Sunday afternoon, with the oddsmakers pegging them as slight 2-point road favorites early in the week. Totals bettors see that OVER/UNDER set at 43 points.
