NFL Betting: Colts road favorites for Sunday night
Things haven't gone well for the Houston Texans so far this season, and a division rival will be looking to add to their misery on Sunday Night Football this week as Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts come to town as road favorites on the NFL betting lines at the sportsbooks.
The Texans head into the Sunday night matchup riding a five-game losing streak that has them at 2-5 SU and 1-6 ATS on the season; Houston did manage to avoid a loss over the weekend, but they were mercifully on a bye.
Houston began the year with back-to-back wins over San Diego and Tennessee, but since then has fallen to each of Baltimore, Seattle, San Francisco, St. Louis, and Kansas City. Texans starting quarterback Matt Schaub sat out that game against the Chiefs to nurse an ankle injury, and his status for this week is up in the air. Running back Arian Foster suffered a pulled hamstring against the Chiefs but expects to play this weekend.
With the losing streak and the hobbled players the Texans are pegged as 3-point home underdogs against the Colts for Sunday night, with the OVER/UNDER for the game listed at 45 points. Houston is 4-3 on the totals this season, while Indianapolis is 3-4.
And the Colts are also 5-2 SU and 4-3 ATS on the year after heading into their bye last week off an impressive 39-33 win over Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos as 6.5-point home underdogs on the NFL betting lines.
Luck went 21 of 38 for 228 yards passing with three touchdowns and no interceptions in that Week 7 win over the Broncos, and he boasts a QB Rating of 91.3 with 10 TD strikes and three interceptions on the season. In his rookie year Luck had a QB Rating of 76.5 with 23 TDs and 18 INTs.
Last season the Texans and Colts split their two meetings 1-1 both SU and ATS, with Houston winning 29-17 as a 10.5-point home favorite, and Indianapolis winning 28-16 as a 6.5-point home underdog. Both of those games turned out to be UNDER results, with the UNDER paying out for totals bettors in each of the last five Colts vs. Texans matchups.
Kickoff for Sunday Night Football will be at 8:30pm ET on NBC. The other two primetime matchups on the NFL betting slate for this week have Cincinnati at Miami (pick'em) on Thursday night, and then Chicago at Green Bay (-11) on Monday night.
On Sunday afternoon it'll be Minnesota at Dallas (-10.5), Atlanta at Carolina (-9), San Diego at Washington (pick'em), Kansas City (-3.5) at Buffalo, Tennessee (-3) at St. Louis, New Orleans (-5.5) at the Jets, Tampa Bay at Seattle (-18.5), Philadelphia (-3) at Oakland, Baltimore (-3) at Cleveland, and Pittsburgh at New England (-7.5).
