NBA Odds: Rockets, Clippers get the hoops spotlight
The Houston Rockets and the Los Angeles Clippers have been two of the best teams in the NBA so far this season, and that pair of Western Conference contenders will highlight the basketball odds slate this week as they tip off in marquee betting action at the sportsbooks on Wednesday night.
And the Rockets will be looking to solve the Clippers on Wednesday night, with Houston falling twice to Los Angeles in their first two meetings of the season back in November.
On November 4 at the Staples Center the Rockets were beaten 137-118 as a 5-point road underdog on the NBA betting lines in an easy OVER result for totals bettors at the sportsbooks. Then on November 9 the Rockets fell 107-94 as a 2.5-point home favorite to the Clippers, in a game that turned out to be an UNDER result on the totals.
Those results dropped the Rockets to just 2-8 SU and 4-6 ATS in their last 10 outings against the Clippers dating back to the 2011 season. The OVER has only paid out three times in the last 10 games between the two teams.
Houston is also in action on Tuesday night this week as they play on the road in Sacramento, with the Rockets having knocked off the Kings 119-98 as a 10-point favorite on the NBA betting lines when they last tipped off together on January 22. The Rockets will also get a visit from Detroit on Saturday.
The Clippers, meanwhile, also have a pair of games against New Orleans this week, on the road on Monday and at home on Saturday. Los Angeles is 4-0 SU and 3-1 ATS in its last four games against the Pelicans, beating them 108-95 and covering the 9.5-point spread at home in their December 18 matchup.
Elsewhere on the NBA betting slate this week, the Warriors will be in Detroit on Monday while New York hosts Dallas, with the Pacers getting a visit from the Lakers on Tuesday night. Indiana knocked off Los Angeles 104-92 as a 10.5-point road favorite in their January 28 contest in an UNDER result.
On Wednesday night Golden State will be at Chicago in a West vs. East battle, while the Lakers are at Memphis, Brooklyn is at Portland, and the Thunder get a visit from the Cavaliers. The UNDER is 4-1 in the last five games between Oklahoma City and Cleveland dating back to 2010.
On Thursday the Nets continue their western swing in Denver while the Heat host the Knicks, with the Thunder back in action on Friday night as they get a visit from the Grizzlies. Oklahoma City got past Memphis 86-77 and just covered the 8-point spread as a home favorite in their February 3 matchup.
Also on Friday are Golden State at New York and Chicago at Dallas, with the Heat hosting in-state rival Orlando on Saturday as Indiana plays in Boston and Portland gets a visit from Denver. The Trail Blazers are 6-4 SU and 7-3 ATS on the NBA odds in their last 10 games against the Nuggets.
On Sunday the notable matchups will then be New York at Chicago, Golden State at Toronto, and Dallas at San Antonio. The Mavericks haven't had much success against the Spurs lately, going just 2-8 both SU and ATS in the last 10 games between the Texas teams - including a 112-90 loss in San Antonio as a 5-point underdog in their January 8 meeting.
