Nationals set to battle Braves in NL East showdown
In the NL East the first-place Braves and second-place Nationals hook up for a four-game series at Turner Field starting Monday night. Atlanta began this season by winning 13 of its first 15 games, but has lost seven of its last nine, and just got swept three games in Detroit over the weekend.
The Nationals, meanwhile, after losing four in row, just took three of four games from the Reds in DC.
As of Monday morning the Braves, who swept three games from Washington two weeks ago, were favored by -115 to win this series with the Nats “getting” -105 as the underdogs.
In the AL Central the 13-10 Detroit Tigers, who just swept those three games from Atlanta, host the 11-10 Twins for three games beginning Monday. In early betting Detroit was favored by a heavy -400 to win this series, with Minnesota, which took two of three games from the Tigers to open this season, getting +300.
In the NL Central the 15-10 Pittsburgh Pirates, who have gone 5-2 on their current road trip so far to take over first place, visit Milwaukee for three games with the 12-11 Brewers; and the 14-10 Cardinals, who just dropped two of three games at home to Pittsburgh, host the 14-12 Reds for a three-game set.
As of Monday morning the Pirates were getting +150 to win their series in Milwaukee, while the Cardinals were favored by -150 to win their series with Cincy.
And out in the NL West the Diamondbacks, who are now tied for first place with the Rockies at 15-10, host the 13-12 Giants for three games, while Colorado visits LA for three games with the 12-12 Dodgers.
In the early betting action Arizona was favored by -115 to win that series with struggling San Francisco, and the Rockies were getting +155 to win their series against LA.
