Monday Night Football Odds: Falcons vs Broncos

Even though they've had some success over recent seasons, the Atlanta Falcons still don't get too many chances to show their stuff on national TV.

But they get such a chance Monday night when they welcome Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos into the Georgia Dome for an NFL inter-conference bout (8:35 pm ET).

And a couple of trends seem to favor Falcon bettors here, according to analysis. The Falcons are a perfect 5-0 ATS the past five times they played a Week 2 game at home. They have also dominated at home in September, going 9-2 ATS in 11 recent early-season games here.

Coming off a clobbering of the Chiefs in Kansas City, and with an 0-2 start by the Saints, the Falcons now look like a favorite in the NFC South. Atlanta let KC stick around for a while last Sunday at Arrowhead, then went on a 23-0 run to pocket one in the 'win' column and cover the spread as one-point road favorites.

The Falcons did, however, allow the Chiefs 152 yards on the ground

On the other side of this matchup Denver made a winner of Manning in his debut for his new team last Sunday, beating Pittsburgh in a re-play of last year's AFC divisional-round thriller 31-19. The Broncos trailed 19-14 early in the fourth quarter before Manning directed Denver to what turned out to be the game-winning scoring drive.

The Broncos then added a field goal and a Tracy Porter INT return for a score for the final margin.

Denver outgained the Steelers 334-284, outrushed them 94-75 and covered the spread as 2.5-point favorites.

The powers that be at many NFL betting outlets tracked by opened Monday night's game last week with Atlanta favored by 3.5 points, the 'over/under' proffered at 49. But as of Monday afternoon many books had dropped the Falcons to -3, but bumped the total a full field goal to 52.

These two teams last met four seasons ago, when Jay Cutler led the Broncos to a late score and a 24-20 victory also at the Georgia Dome.
