MLB Betting: Cardinals host the Cubs and Pirates
The St. Louis Cardinals have an MLB betting series against the Pittsburgh Pirates coming up early next week, but they'll first have to take care of business against the Chicago Cubs when those two clubs meet on the weekend.
St. Louis opens a three-game home series against Chicago on Friday night this week, and so far this season the Cardinals are 6-4 over their 10 games against the Cubs. The teams last met in a four-game set in the middle of July at Wrigley Field, winning two games apiece in that series.
The OVER/UNDER is 3-7 in Cardinals vs. Cubs games this season.
St. Louis then gets a visit from the Pirates starting next Tuesday night, with the Cardinals heading into Wednesday's action two games behind Pittsburgh in the NL Central standings.
The Cardinals are just 3-7 against the Pirates so far in 2013, going 1-4 against them in Pittsburgh in a five-game MLB betting series at the end of July. The OVER/UNDER has gone 7-3 in the last 10 games between St. Louis and Pittsburgh.
On the MLB futures at the sportsbooks right now the Cardinals are listed at 3/1 on the odds to win the National League Pennant, putting them tied with the Atlanta Braves and behind only the 5/2 Los Angeles Dodgers. The Pirates sit at 6/1 on the current NL Pennant odds.
Pittsburgh will be looking to improve that MLB betting line this weekend as they begin a three-game series in Colorado on Friday night. The Pirates paid off in two of their three games against the Rockies at home when the teams met in early August, with the OVER/UNDER going 0-2-1 in those contests.
Along with the Pirates, the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Atlanta Braves are the other two division leaders heading into this weekend's action. Atlanta will play host to the Miami Marlins this weekend, while Los Angeles has an interleague matchup on tap against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Early next week the Braves will then get a visit from the Philadelphia Phillies, while the Dodgers play host to the New York Mets. The Braves are 6-3 against the Phillies so far this season in MLB betting action, with the Dodgers 2-1 against the Mets in 2013.
Los Angeles heads in Wednesday's action five games ahead of the Arizona Diamondbacks in the NL West standings, and they're also the -700 favorites at the sportsbooks to claim that division crown this season; the D-Backs are at +500 on that NL West odds list.
St. Louis is then the slight EVEN favorite over the +120 Pirates and the +550 Reds on the odds to win the NL Central, with the NL East odds off the board at the sportsbooks thanks to the Braves' huge division lead - they're 14.5 games up on Washington heading into Wednesday's action.
