Midweek Sports Wagering Update
For many sports bettors the next month or so is probably the best time of the year. Baseball every day, and football nearly every day. What do the next 48 hours or so offer up? Here's a quick look.
Hardball Pennant Race Action
Things is getting very interesting around MLB right now, as several races have tightened up. Some teams we thought were shoo-ins for the playoffs are trying to prove us wrong, while other teams we thought were dead are trying to do the same thing. [ See the latest lines for all sports here at NBC ]
Wednesday night the Milwaukee Brewers, who have come from 12 games under .500 to get within a couple of games in the NL Wild-Card race, continue a series with the fading Pirates in Pittsburgh.
Also, the Los Angeles Dodgers, themselves only a game and a half out in that same race, play a doubleheader vs. the NL East-leading Nationals in Washington; the Philadelphia Phillies, 4.5 games out in that race, continue a series vs. the Mets in New York.
The Yankees, trying to hold on in the AL East, do a day-night doubleheader at the Stadium vs. the Blue Jays and the amazin' A's continue a series with the Tigers in Detroit; the AL West-leading Rangers continue a series in Anaheim with the Angels; and the Orioles, after winning in 18 innings Tuesday night, go in search of a sweep of the Mariners in Seattle.
Thursday brings with it a bunch of afternoon MLB betting action, so bettors should make sure they've got their picks in early.
Mid-Week College Football
Week 4 of the college football season kicks off Wednesday night with a MAC matchup as the Buffalo Bulls host the Golden Flashes of Kent State. Neither team is expected to contend in the MAC's East Division this season, but at least they're fairly evenly matched; Buffalo is listed as a 3.5-point home favorite over KSU.
Then Thursday night we get a matchup that isn't played often enough, as the Boise State Broncos host the BYU Cougars. The Broncos are favored by 7.5 point for that bout up on the blue turf of Boise.
