Gonzaga climbs to No. 2 with BYU on tap Thursday
An abbreviated February of college basketball ends this week. Here's a quick look at some of the upcoming attractions on this week's college hoops betting boards.
Monday night No. 12 Syracuse, coming off a home loss to Georgetown Saturday in which it shot just 34 percent from the floor, tries to bounce back when it visits No. 22 Marquette (7 pm ET, ESPN). And No. 6 Kansas, winners of four games in a row, visits 19-8 Iowa State (9 pm ET, ESPN).
In the early betting the Orange were favored by a point and a half over the Eagles, and the Jayhawks were favored by a point and a half over the Cyclones.
Also, on the NCAA tournament futures market Kansas is listed at right around 10/1 to win the national championship, with Georgetown getting 15/1, Marquette 100/1 and Iowa State 200/1.
Tuesday night No. 1 Indiana visits an 18-9 Minnesota team that can ill-afford any more hits to its NCAA tournament resume (7 pm ET, ESPN). Also Tuesday No. 8 Florida runs into a team in a similar situation when it visits 16-10 Tennessee (9 pm ET, ESPN).
The Hoosiers top the betting on most NCAA championship boards at 4/1, while Florida is getting right around 6/1.
On Wednesday a hot Georgetown team, now at No. 7 in the AP poll and still in the hunt for a No. 1 seed in the upcoming NCAA tournament, visits a 19-7 Connecticut team playing for nothing but pride (7 pm ET, ESPN2). Also Wednesday the two best teams in the MAC meet when 20-7 Ohio hosts 22-4 Akron (7 pm ET); out in the Mountain West No. 14 New Mexico hosts 20-7 San Diego State (10:15 pm ET, CBS Sports); and in the Pac-12 UCLA, at 20-7, hosts 20-8 Arizona State (11:30 pm ET, Pac-12 Network).
The Hoyas are still getting upwards of 15/1 on some NCAA championship boards.
Thursday out in the WAC 24-3 Louisiana Tech, which has crept to No. 25 in this week's poll, puts its perfect conference record on the line when it hosts 19-7 Utah State (8 pm ET, ESPN3). Also Thursday No. 3 Duke visits 19-8 Virginia (9 pm ET, ESPN); and in the WCC Gonzaga, now at No. 2 in the AP poll, puts its perfect conference record at risk when it visits 20-9 BYU (11 pm ET, ESPN2).
College basketball futures bettors can get the Dukies at 7/1 to win the NCAA tournament, while the Zags can be had at 8/1.
