Baseball Betting: Division leaders clash in Atlanta
Holding down the lead in their division standings, the Atlanta Braves and the St. Louis Cardinals will meet for the first time this season this weekend as they open up a three-game MLB betting series at Turner Field on Friday night.
Atlanta heads into Wednesday's action with the biggest division lead in baseball, sitting seven games up on the Philadelphia Phillies and eight games ahead of the Washington Nationals in the NL East standings.
St. Louis, meanwhile, heads into Wednesday with a 1.5-game lead on the Pittsburgh Pirates and a five-game advantage on the Cincinnati Reds in the NL Central division race.
The Braves and Cardinals met seven times last season, with Atlanta coming out on top in five of those seven matchups for their supporters on the MLB betting lines - with all seven of those games turning into OVER results for totals bettors. The teams split their four meetings in Atlanta at 2-2.
After playing in Atlanta this weekend the Cardinals will remain on the road for a series against the Pittsburgh Pirates - which gets underway on Monday night and includes a doubleheader on Tuesday. The Cardinals sit at 7/2 on the latest odds to win the NL Pennant at the sportsbooks.
The Braves remain at home for an MLB betting series against the Colorado Rockies early next week, and that set gets underway on Monday night as well. Atlanta is at 4/1 on the updated NL Pennant odds at the sportsbooks.
Out in the NL West the Los Angeles Dodgers hold a slim half-game lead on the Arizona Diamondbacks heading into Wednesday's action. Los Angeles begins a four-game home series against the Reds on Thursday night; the Dodgers won four of their six games against Cincinnati last season.
Arizona, meanwhile, hosts the San Diego Padres this weekend, with the Diamondbacks losing six of their nine games against the Padres so far this season. The NL Pennant futures have the D-Backs back at 12/1, while the Dodgers are co-favorites with the Cardinals at 7/2.
Other series around the NL this weekend include the Mets at Washington, Pittsburgh at Miami, Milwaukee at Colorado, and the Cubs at San Francisco. Early next week the slate also includes Milwaukee at the Cubs, San Francisco at Philadelphia, the Mets at Miami, and Cincinnati at San Diego.
Rounding out the current NL Pennant odds at the sportsbooks are the Pirates (11/2), Reds (6/1), Nationals (10/1), Giants (16/1), Phillies (28/1), Rockies (33/1), Padres (75/1), Mets (125/1), Cubs (300/1), Brewers (750/1), and Marlins (2000/1).
