Baseball Betting: Can Yankees salvage their season?
Fading in both the AL East and the AL Wild Card races, the New York Yankees will get a chance to start salvaging their season this weekend as they open up a three-games series at Fenway Park against the division-rival Boston Red Sox.
The Yankees will head into Friday's series opener in fourth place in the AL East standings behind the Red Sox, Rays, and Orioles, and they need to jump several teams to get into contention for an AL Wild Card spot. That has them back at 25/1 odds to win the AL Pennant at the sportsbooks.
And New York hasn't been able to pay out against Boston for its supporters on the MLB odds this season, going just 3-6 over their first nine meetings - with the OVER/UNDER sitting at 4-5 for totals bettors in those nine contests.
Boston, which leads the AL East standings, is at 17/4 on the updated AL Pennant odds at the sportsbooks, putting them behind only the favored Detroit Tigers (11/4). The Tigers host the Royals for five games starting on Thursday night this week; Detroit is just 3-5 against Kansas City on the season.
The Oakland A's, Tampa Bay Rays, and Texas Rangers all sit at 5/1 on the current AL Pennant odds, with the Rays hosting the Blue Jays this weekend while Texas gets a visit from Seattle and Oakland gets a visit from Cleveland. The A's lost all four of their games in Cleveland on the MLB betting lines in May.
The Baltimore Orioles are then at 17/2 on the AL Pennant odds as they play at home against the Rockies in interleague action this weekend. The Indians are at 20/1, with the Royals at 22/1.
Next week the Yankees start out with a four-game home series against the Blue Jays, with that MLB betting set getting underway with a doubleheader on Tuesday. New York has dominated Toronto this season, winning eight of their nine matchups while the OVER/UNDER went 5-3-1 for totals bettors.
The Red Sox are in San Francisco early next week, while the Rays and Orioles begin a three-game showdown at Camden Yards on Monday night. Baltimore is just 4-6 in its last 10 games against Tampa Bay, with the UNDER paying out in just three of those matchups.
As well, early next week in AL action it's Minnesota at Detroit, Houston at Texas, the White Sox at Kansas City, Seattle at Oakland, and Cleveland at the Angels. Los Angeles is 4-1 in its past five games against the Indians dating back to last season.
